Menu Items#
A Menu Item is a dish or product on your menu. Like a Recipe, it can contain Ingredients, Recipes, and Activities as components — but it’s designed to represent what you sell, not just what you make.
Creating a menu item only requires a name.
Components#
| Component type | What it is |
|---|---|
| Menu Item Ingredient | Direct ingredient (always uses the lowest price — no Preferred Price) |
| Menu Item Recipe | A recipe used as a component |
| Menu Item Activity | A labor task with a duration |
Menu Item Ingredients always use the lowest available price. There is no Preferred Price option for menu items (unlike recipes).
Selling Price and profit#
Selling Price is optional. If set, must be positive. Used to calculate profit and profit margin.
- Profit = Selling Price − Total Cost
- Profit Margin = Profit ÷ Selling Price
